Whilst potable water is often not available in developing countries, we waste thousands of litres annually because heated water expands in water heaters and the surplus leaks out via the safety valve. An unnoticed waste that you can prevent. Together with Flamco.
HOW?
Install a Flamco Airfix next to your water heater. the potable water is collected, kept clean and flows back into your water heater as soon as water is used. This way, water is no longer wasted, not a single drop!
You can support a good cause directly!
The Airfix expansion vessel prevents the safety valve from opening each time that potable water is heated. This way, one can prevent the unnecessary wastage of clean and heated water. In addition, the life span of the safety valve is extended. Damage or calcification of the seating is avoided. Safety valves that have calcified or have a damaged seating run the risk of permanent leaks, resulting in even greater loss of water.
Water heaters
Based on a standard 200-litre water heater (for a household of 4 persons) that heats up to 60°C, the following consumption data is known:
Purification
This potable water is purified and leaves a footprint on the environment during this process. When producing potable water, energy is already consumed (pumping, filtering, etc.) and CO2 is emitted. In addition, chemicals are also used that generate undesired substances. This results in contaminated sludge as residual product.
This sludge must be processed or stored.
The extraction of groundwater can also contribute to a drop of the groundwater table, which results in drying out natural areas, for example. Just for this reason, it is important to use water sparingly.
These 1,205 litres of water is purified, subsequently heated and then drained into the discharge pipe during the heating process. The more often you say this, the sillier it sounds! The resulting effects on the environment are:
Environmental impact per 200 liters of hot water
CO2
Purification: 1.2 m3 x 0.36 kg CO2 = 0.4338 kg CO2 per year
Preparation: 8.4 m3 gas x 1.884 kg CO2/m3 gas = 15.8 kg CO2 per year
Energy
Purification: 0.47 KWh per m3, x 1.205 = 0.56635 KWh = 2.37 KJ
Preparation:1Kcal per litre per degree (50 degrees of heating) = 1205 x 50 = 60250 Kcal = 252.3 MJ
Flamco has been involved in the development, production and sale of high-quality components for use in HVAC systems since 1956. It is part of the stocklisted Aalberts NV, instituted in 1975. Along with Comap, which helps manage water and energy through its thermal and sanitary products that increase comfort in buildings, the Aalberts hydronic flow control business unit was constituted. Stronger together, Flamco and Comap will continue to build mission critical technologies to manage heating and cooling humanly with better financial and environmental efficacy. From source to emitter we partner with our customers to engineer seamless energy efficient hydronic systems for their building requirements.
