The maintenance of the Flamco pressure ensures the operation of the district heating station of a tourist area in the Valle D’Aosta region.
The Pila - Gressan ski resort (Aosta) is located at 1800 m above sea level, south of Aosta, a strong attraction for tourists from all over Italy and abroad, in particular from neighbouring France.
The resort is served by a district heating hot water plant, managed directly by Exergy company for over 20 years. The plant is appreciated and recognised for its service. Its customers also include an exclusive resort, TH RESORTS, an important Italian company that owns holiday centres in exclusive national tourist resorts. Following the maintenance programme, the plant was extensively renewed in 2019. The operations carried out completely replaced the system for maintaining the pressure of the district heating network, composed of an obsolete expansion vessel with a capacity of 25,000 liter.
Constant temperatures and a reliable supply of heating are the prerequisites for the proper functioning of a plant like the one at Pila. With the Flamco M-K/U systems used you get a double and valid result: the automatic pressure maintenance device controlled by a compressor to compensate for the thermal expansion of the water in the system, with the possibility of connecting to a Flamco automatic degassing and replenishing system. This solution minimises maintenance costs and helps to increase the efficiency of the plant.
The automatic pressure regulator has been installed with a 3,500 l 10 bar M-K/U K-031 base tank, code 23578 and flanked by three 350 l 10 bar Flexcon VSV vessels, specifically chosen by the Exergy technical staff in order to ensure over time the integrity of the bladder which in this configuration receives reduced thermal stresses.

The Flamco Clean Smart 50 F flanged degassers and dirt separators code 31041, which guarantee plant water cleanliness, further improving its efficiency, were also installed in the plant. The devices used reduce the speed of the flow rates of the plant to less than 1% of that of the main volumetric flow, they capture the larger particles of impurities and deposit them on the bottom of the dirt separator, thus ensuring they are separated and subsequently removed. In addition, four super neodymium magnets ensure that even particles smaller than 4 µm and ferrous particles are picked up and removed. "The absence of air inclusions and sludge extends the life of the components of the entire system and promotes good functioning over time".
The replacement of the components was carried out with minimum technical shutdown of the district heating system thanks also to the direct support of the Dutch Flamco technicians. "The objective was to simplify the process of maintaining the water network and to minimise both maintenance and space requirements. And with the M-K/U system we did it”.
Flamco has been involved in the development, production and sale of high-quality components for use in HVAC systems since 1956. It is part of the stocklisted Aalberts NV, instituted in 1975. Along with Comap, which helps manage water and energy through its thermal and sanitary products that increase comfort in buildings, the Aalberts hydronic flow control business unit was constituted. Stronger together, Flamco and Comap will continue to build mission critical technologies to manage heating and cooling humanly with better financial and environmental efficacy. From source to emitter we partner with our customers to engineer seamless energy efficient hydronic systems for their building requirements.
